       Guangzhou Development Zone is located in the east of Guangzhou City, which is also in the heartland of Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao golden delta. In southeast and southwest of the zone, it faces to Dongguan City and Panyu District of Guangzhou City across the river; and is adjacent to Zengcheng City, Huangpu District, Baiyun District and Tianhe District through landway. By the end of 2000, the planning area of Guangzhou Development Zone had expanded from 9.6 sq km in 1984 to 88.77 sq km, which is divided into such four zones as West Zone, East Zone (Export Processing Zone), Yonghe Economic zone £¨GZ Taiwan businessmen investment zone£© and Guangzhou Science City.
      West Zone lies in the triangle zone linking with Huangpu New Port, Pearl River, Dong River and Hengjiao River. Its planning area is 9.6 sq km. Through the decade of development and construction, West Zone has developed into a perfect industry park with complete facilities.
      East Zone (Export Processing Zone) lies in the east of Nangang Town of Huangpu District of Guangzhou City, the north of West Zone of Guangzhou Development Zone, which consists of south area and north area. Originally, planning area of Guangzhou Development Zone was 9.6 sq km. Because quays and harbors of Hunagpu New Port, Pearl River and Dong River as well as Da Hao Zhou Island occupied 3sq km of its planning land, its actual area was 6.6 sq km. In order to supplement this shortage of planning land, Guangzhou Development Zone submitted application for replacement of 3sq km land to the State Council. In 1992, the State Council officially approved this replacement. Replaced 3sq km-land was developed into current south area of the East Zone. In 1992, Guangzhou Municipal Government decided to entrust Guangzhou Development Zone to develop 4sq km land in Yunpu Industry Zone. Now, this land is developed into north area of East Zone. In 1995, Guangdong Provincial Government approved such proposal that East Zone was included in Guangzhou Development Zone. In this proposal, total planning area of East Zone was 7sq km. In April 2000, the State Council approved the application for export processing area in Guangzhou. The export processing area was located in East Zone of Guangzhou Development Zone. Through sufficient preparation, Guangzhou Export Processing Zone was formally set up in March 30, 2001. Furthermore, 900,000 sq.m. of initial phase was officially put into operation.
      Yonghe Economic Zone £¨GZ Taiwan businessmen investment Zone£© is located in Yonghe Town of Zengcheng City, which Guangzhou Municipal Government approved its launch in 1993. Its planning area was 34.7 sq km. In 1995, Guangzhou Municipal Government decided to rely on Yonghe Economic Zone as a carrier to set up GZ Taiwan businessmen investment Zone. In the same year, Guangdong Provincial Government officially approved that Yonghe Economic Zone was included in the development and management of Guangzhou Development Zone.
      Guangzhou Science City is located in the edge of Baiyun Ecology Protection Area in the northeast of Guangzhou City, which is about 10km away from the downtown. Its foundation was laid in Dec. 28, 1998, meanwhile its planning area was 34.47 sq km.
Guangzhou Development Zone is located in the heartland of Pearl Delta where is the richest and has most flourishing economy and most powerful consumption. It is adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, backs on domestic markets and faces to the world. Relying on Guangzhou City¡ª¡ª the center of economy, culture, transportation, information and finance in South China, it has unique comprehensive advantages.
      Preferable natural conditions¡ª¡ªgood geological condition, it isn¡¯t impacted by typhoon directly and earthquake. It has a semi-tropical marine climate in pleasant warmth. In the area, trees are green in four seasons and flowers bloom in year round, and high planting rate can be reached to possess excellent ecology. Therefore, it belongs to a typical landscape city.
      Location advantage is evident¡ª¡ªGuangzhou Development Zone lies in the transportation network composed of Guang-Shan Highway, Guang-Shen Highway, Guang-Shen Expressway, Jing-Zhu Expressway, Guang-Hui Expressway and Guang-Shen Railway, which is honored as ¡°Guangzhou¡ªShen¡ªHong Kong¡± Golden Corridor. Through these roads, Guangzhou Development Zone can be led to Pearl Delta Highway Network and linked to national highway network. It is very convenient to drive from Guangzhou Development Zone to Guangzhou East Railway Station, Guangzhou Railway Station and Baiyun International Airport. The largest container terminal in South China ¨C Huangpu New Port is just located in West Zone of the development zone; moreover Xinsha Port faces to West Zone across the river. Guangzhou-Hong Kong Dongjiang River wharf in West Zone is class-A national port. It is about 55 sea mile distance between the wharf and Hong Kong through Pearl River sea-route. Speed shuttle boats are available between Guangzhou and Hong Kong every day with one-hour voyage. The customs in the area implements online declaration and online check. Declaration procedure can be settled within one working day.
      Concentrated management mechanism--since 1998, Guangzhou Development Zone has realized combined working mode with hi-tech zone, bonded zone and export processing zone to include 4 zones in one management organ. This ¡°4-in-1¡± management system highly concentrated the mechanism. Guangzhou Development Zone Management Committee is authorized with municipal A-level economic management power; therefore, the committee can approve foreign-invested project basically. The committee always emphases on commercial environment, conduct ¡°non-stop working mode and coordinated services¡±, implements commitment system of high-quality service, and provides fast and considerate investment service.
